A cold storage facility, ice production, and waste management will strengthen the cold chain and improve sanitary conditions for fish vendors at the city’s largest market.
Novanor has launched a new project in Angola with the construction of a set of support infrastructures for the Mercado do Africano in Lobito. The project aims to improve the preservation and commercialization conditions of fresh products — particularly fish and fruit and vegetables — in one of the busiest markets in Benguela Province.
The intervention comprises three main components:
• a refrigerated cold storage chamber, designed to directly support the market stalls and ensure the maintenance of the cold chain throughout the trading day;
• a containerized ice production plant, with a production capacity of 5 tonnes per day, specifically designed to supply the fish market stalls;
• a refrigerated waste storage facility, which will enable proper sanitary management of the organic waste generated by the market’s activities;
The containerized solution for the ice production plant represents a technically adapted approach to the local context, combining operational robustness with ease of installation, operation, and maintenance.
This project is part of Novanor’s ongoing commitment to the development of public utility infrastructure in Angola, reinforcing its presence and execution capacity in the Benguela region — where the company has a solid track record of projects in the industrial, food, and construction sectors.
